Oven Barbecued Dove

2 Doves per person
Crumbled bay leaf -- as needed
Poultry seasoning -- to taste
Chopped onion -- as needed
Butter -- as needed
Salt -- to taste
Freshly-ground black pepper -- to taste
Bermuda onion slices -- as needed
Bacon strips -- as needed
Barbecue sauce -- as needed
1/2 cup Water per foil package

Prepare doves for roasting. Prepare a double thickness of foil long enough to wrap doves. Put doves breast up on foil and sprinkle several pieces of crumbled bay leaf on each. Saute onion in butter. Sprinkle doves with poultry seasoning, sauteed onion, salt, and pepper. Top with Bermuda slices. Lay strips of bacon on top, and drizzle with barbecue sauce. Seal top and one end of package with drugstore fold. Pour about 1/2 cup water into open end and seal that with drugstore fold. Bake at 350 degrees for 2 hours. To crisp bacon, open top and put under broiler for a few minutes before serving. Prepare 1 foil package for each serving.
